Autocomplete

Failure And Retry

Suggestions that admit they did not arrive: the failure takes the place of the list, names itself and offers a retry button.

What you can change

  • the suggestion source via search — the real request goes here
  • the state captions via statusText and the retry button via retryLabel
  • the initial state via defaultState

For developers

The install command lives in the “Component source” block below — a signed link that stays valid for 24 hours.

Technical notes

The component is self-contained: one file, no dependencies, its own palette in the local --vibeui-autocomplete-013-* variables. The request goes into the search prop and returns a promise; a rejection is caught by catch and moves the component into the failed state. A response to a stale request is dropped by a counter: without it a slow answer overwrites the fresh list. The failure is marked role="alert", so a screen reader reads it at once rather than on the next focus. The retry button returns focus to the field: after a successful attempt typing continues there. The initial state is set by the defaultState prop — the showcase has to show a failure without making a request. The theme comes from color-scheme through light-dark(), and the component switches on a class-based dark theme for itself.
