Avatar Stack

A stack of participants with an honest width: the overlap is negative margin, the tail folds into a counter, and with tooltips on, the circles name themselves on hover and on focus.

What you can change

  • the names array and the visible count
  • size — sm, md or lg
  • the overlap amount through the variable

For developers

The install command lives in the “Component source” block below — a signed link that stays valid for 24 hours.

Technical notes

The component is self-contained: one file, no dependencies, its own palette in the local --vibeui-avatar-003-* variables. The markup is a ul/li list: the overlap comes from a negative margin, so the stack's width is honest, and the layering order is set by the --vibeui-avatar-003-z variable and is not limited by the number of participants. With tooltip on, the circle becomes a button, enters the tab order and gets :focus-visible, while the label lies inside the button as ordinary text and is revealed by :hover and :focus-visible rules — with no state and no JS. The names of the folded participants stay in the markup as hidden text. The theme comes from color-scheme through light-dark(), and the component switches the class-based dark theme on for itself.
