Label

Hint Popover

A label with a question button beside it: the long explanation hides in a native popover that opens without a single line of script.

What you can change

  • the field name through label, the spoken button text through question and the hint body through answer
  • the accent and focus color through accent
  • background — the component surface; empty means no surface, taking the page colour

For developers

The install command lives in the “Component source” block below — a signed link that stays valid for 24 hours.

Technical notes

The component is self-contained: one file, no dependencies, a palette in local variables --vibeui-label-002-*. It is a server component: useId is the only hook. The hint is a native element with the popover="auto" attribute, and the button opens it through popoverTarget: the browser itself provides dismissal by Esc and by a click outside, there are no handlers. The hint position comes from CSS anchor positioning under @supports (anchor-name: --a) with position-try-fallbacks; where anchor is unsupported the browser puts the popover in the middle of the screen — ugly, but the text is available. The button is a plain <button> with an aria-label, so it lands in the tab order and opens from the keyboard. The palette is built on light-dark(): the block follows the surrounding color-scheme, there is no surface by default, and it appears only through the background prop.
