Label

Optional Tag

A label with an "optional" tag on the right edge of the line: the minority of fields is marked, instead of asterisking the majority.

What you can change

  • the field name through label, the tag wording through optionalText and the stub text through placeholder
  • the focus color through accent
  • background — the component surface; empty means no surface, taking the page colour

For developers

The install command lives in the “Component source” block below — a signed link that stays valid for 24 hours.

Technical notes

The component is self-contained: one file, no dependencies, a palette in local variables --vibeui-label-003-*. It is a server component: useId is the only hook. The label row is a flex with justify-content:space-between and align-items:baseline: the tag is pushed to the right edge yet sits on the same baseline as the label even though its type size is smaller. The tag is made of plain text in a pill rather than an icon or a colour: the "optional" state has to be readable aloud and in black-and-white print. The field is a textarea with resize:vertical, so a long comment can be expanded without breaking the form width. The palette is built on light-dark(): the block follows the surrounding color-scheme, there is no surface by default, and it appears only through the background prop.
