Cascader

Full Path Field

A cascader that keeps the whole path in the field rather than the last level: a long path truncates on the left, so its end is always visible.

What you can change

  • label — the caption above the field
  • tree — the category tree, of any depth
  • defaultPath — the path selected at first render

For developers

The install command lives in the “Component source” block below — a signed link that stays valid for 24 hours.

Technical notes

The component is self-contained: one file, zero dependencies, its own palette in the local --vibeui-cascader-020-* variables. Client-side: the chosen path, the panel's open state and the tree-browsing cursor live in separate useState hooks — the cursor is deliberately kept apart from the result, so walking the levels does not spoil the already chosen value until it reaches a leaf. Truncating the path on the left is done in CSS: direction: rtl on the line together with text-overflow: ellipsis moves the ellipsis to the beginning, while unicode-bidi: plaintext leaves the text itself in its natural order. That adapts to the real width of the field, unlike truncation by character count. The field is a button with aria-expanded, aria-controls and a title holding the full path; the caption is tied through aria-labelledby.
