Select

Chip Multi Select

A chip-based multi-select: chosen values show up as separate chips with a remove cross, and its own button opens the option list.

What you can change

  • the options array and its copy
  • the caption through label, the trigger button text through addLabel, the empty-state text through emptyText
  • the chip remove-button label through removeLabel — {label} is replaced by the tag name

Technical notes

Client component: useState holds the array of selected values, whether the panel is open and the highlighted index. A trigger button (not a select) opens a role=listbox panel with aria-multiselectable — it is kept apart from select[multiple], because the chips need to live separately from the list field. A click on an option is caught on onMouseDown with preventDefault, so that it is not lost to the button's blur. useEffect closes the panel on a click outside the root. A chip is a separate span with a remove button inside; the buttons are not nested in one another. If name is passed, every selected value is rendered as its own hidden input. The palette lives in --vibeui-select-013-*.
