Tree
Partial Checkbox Tree
A checkbox tree with an honest third state: the selection is stored on leaves only and a branch's tick is derived from them, so the counter and the parent can never disagree.
React + Tailwind, shadcn-compatible: press “Copy for AI” and your Cursor or Claude Code agent installs it with the shadcn CLI.
What you can change
- the tree contents through nodes
- the tree caption through label
- the initially selected leaves in the component code
A link for your AI agent: preview, code and instructions.

FAQ
- How do I add Partial Checkbox Tree with Cursor or Claude Code?
- Press “Copy for AI” on this page and paste it into your agent's chat. The instruction contains the shadcn CLI install command, the dependencies and what to keep, so the agent installs this exact component instead of recreating a lookalike.
- What does Partial Checkbox Tree depend on?
- No npm packages beyond React and Tailwind CSS.
- What can I change in Partial Checkbox Tree?
- Adapt: the tree contents through nodes; the tree caption through label; the initially selected leaves in the component code. Keep as installed: the local --vibeui-tree-005-* palette — do not swap it for your theme tokens; storing the selection on leaves only: a parallel branch state diverges on the first edit; setting indeterminate in an effect — there is no attribute for the third state.
- Is Partial Checkbox Tree free?
- Yes. The preview is open without an account; with a free account you can copy up to 20 components a month.

Technical notes
The component is self-contained: one file, no dependencies, its own palette in the local --vibeui-tree-005-* variables. Client component: the set of selected leaves and the set of expanded branches live in useState, and the checkbox nodes are kept in a ref map. A branch state is derived on the fly: fully selected when all of its leaves are selected, partially when at least one is. There is nothing in the markup to declare the third state with — indeterminate is a node property — so it is set in an effect after render, once the branch contents are known. The checkboxes are native: keyboard support, state announcement and the link to the label come from the browser. The tree, treeitem and group roles with aria-level and aria-expanded describe the structure.
