Button

Tri-State Select

A toggle with a third state: besides all and nothing a list can be 3 of 8, and that is announced through aria-pressed="mixed" instead of being hidden in a colour.

React + Tailwind, shadcn-compatible: press “Copy for AI” and your Cursor or Claude Code agent installs it with the shadcn CLI.

What you can change

  • the caption through the label prop
  • the list size through total and the starting number of checked rows through defaultSelected
  • the reaction to toggling through the onSelectedChange prop

A link for your AI agent: preview, code and instructions.

FAQ

How do I add Tri-State Select with Cursor or Claude Code?
Press “Copy for AI” on this page and paste it into your agent's chat. The instruction contains the shadcn CLI install command, the dependencies and what to keep, so the agent installs this exact component instead of recreating a lookalike.
What does Tri-State Select depend on?
No npm packages beyond React and Tailwind CSS.
What can I change in Tri-State Select?
Adapt: the caption through the label prop; the list size through total and the starting number of checked rows through defaultSelected; the reaction to toggling through the onSelectedChange prop. Keep as installed: the three aria-pressed states: false, true and mixed — the last one is the reason this component exists; the dash instead of a check in the partial state: a partial selection has to differ from a full one without relying on colour; the visible selected-of-total counter next to the label — it explains where the partial state comes from.
Is Tri-State Select free?
Yes. The preview is open without an account; with a free account you can copy up to 20 components a month.

For developers

npx shadcn@latest add https://vibeui.club/r/pro/button-024.json

Technical notes

The component is self-contained: one file, no dependencies, its own palette in the local --vibeui-button-024-* variables. Client component: the number of checked rows is held internally and reported outwards through onSelectedChange. The value of aria-pressed is derived from the counter: 0 is false, total is true, and anything between is mixed. The glyph in the box switches between a checkmark and a dash, and the counter is set in tabular-nums.
