Locked Field Reason

A readonly field with a lock in the frame and the reason for the lock written below it, tied to the field with aria-describedby, plus an optional action button that works around it.

React + Tailwind, shadcn-compatible: press “Copy for AI” and your Cursor or Claude Code agent installs it with the shadcn CLI.

What you can change

  • the label, defaultValue and reason copy for your specific lock reason
  • actionLabel and the onRequestChange callback — your own workaround action, or no button at all
  • the accent through the accent prop

A link for your AI agent: preview, code and instructions.

FAQ

How do I add Locked Field Reason with Cursor or Claude Code?
Press “Copy for AI” on this page and paste it into your agent's chat. The instruction contains the shadcn CLI install command, the dependencies and what to keep, so the agent installs this exact component instead of recreating a lookalike.
What does Locked Field Reason depend on?
No npm packages beyond React and Tailwind CSS.
What can I change in Locked Field Reason?
Adapt: the label, defaultValue and reason copy for your specific lock reason; actionLabel and the onRequestChange callback — your own workaround action, or no button at all; the accent through the accent prop. Keep as installed: the local --vibeui-input-028-* palette — do not swap it for your theme tokens; the visible reason text below the field instead of a title or placeholder — neither is reachable by keyboard or on mobile; linking the input and the reason text with aria-describedby — otherwise a screen reader only announces 'read-only field' with no explanation.
Is Locked Field Reason free?
Yes. The preview is open without an account; with a free account you can copy up to 20 components a month.

For developers

Technical notes

The component is self-contained: one file, no dependencies, its own palette in local variables --vibeui-input-028-*. A client component: "use client" (needed for the onRequestChange handler). The field is readOnly with aria-readonly="true", and a dashed border in place of the usual accent is a visual signal of "not editable" that is separate from the text colour. The reason for the lock is not a placeholder and not a title but visible text under the field, tied to the input through aria-describedby. The action button is rendered only if onRequestChange is passed — otherwise it is unclear where the click should lead.
